Sometime in April David J Patrick assaulted the keyboard and produced:

| checking for tputs in -lcurses... no
| checking for tputs in -ltermcap... no
| checking for tputs in -lterminfo... no
| checking for tputs in -ltermlib... no
| checking for readline in -lreadline... no
| configure: error: Can't find readline libraries

| being perl-hopeless, I' don't know how to address this one.
| mebbe a cloo ?

I don't think this has anything to do with perl and more to do with
dependencies. I checked the dependencies under Debian and this is what i
got:

Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.2.ds1-4),
         libgcc1 (>= 1:3.4.1-3),
         libncurses5 (>= 5.4-1),
         libreadline4 (>= 4.3-1),  <-------
         libstdc++5 (>= 1:3.3.4-1)

So I think you just need to install the libreadline stuff. When you try to
make it it should work, or give you a simlar error.
