Hmmm...interesting.  I was also able to get Wyrd to execute after 
running "export TERM='screen'".  I haven't yet had the chance to play 
with it much to see if it's functioning properly, but at least after 
changing that environmental variable I was able to get it running on my 
Mac.

For the record, I'm using ncurses 5.2-20020209, not sure about the 
libncurses5, although it should be whatever is installed by default by 
Mac OS 10.3.
