In a process of deep contemplation, Wladimir Labeikovsky carefully 
constucted the following missive on 12/21/2005 2:29 PM:

The ~ is a advanced shell extension, the /bin/sh shell doesn't know what 
to do with it.  Use absolute paths /home/me/path/to/birthdayreminders.
