Maybe not quite what you want, but: 

You can specify the reminders file on the wyrd command line, which will
override the setting in your configuration file.  So:

   wyrd ~/.todo
   (add reminder via 'q' key)

or

   wyrd -a "meet with Bob tomorrow at 2" ~/.todo

It seems like the latter might be preferable for your use case.
