I built it using _your_ unmodified custom.h settings and got the same
funny negative results. 

I don't know how funcs.c picks up the global.c values, but something
goes wrong in that process. 

As far as I know my gcc/libc stuff is OK. I'll give it a go on my Ubuntu
system and my second SuSE system and see how it turns out on them.
