Maybe ironically, the way I got around the anti-mac policy by
tinkering with the configure file.

I agree with your general point though. It "just works"? Great. I want
to be able to change it too. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

Apple's business strategy seems to be that they make something
awesome, but then hobble it in some way that you have to give them
lots of money.
