I should have thought of using SPECIAL HTML since I'm already using it to insert URL's, but then --utf8 wouldn't have been born.
To get the new rem2html to work, I had to change #!perl to #!/usr/bin/perl. Maybe because I'm using a very old version of Debian Linux.

Hi,

I've added a --utf8 command-line option to rem2html that makes it assume
UTF-8-encoded data on input and produce UTF-8-encoded data on output.
This flag also makes it write the tag indicating utf-8 character
encoding.

This should eliminate all the "Wide character..." warnings that it currently
produces. You can try it out from git HEAD at
https://git.skoll.ca/Skollsoft-Public/Remind
