[Remind-Fans] Daemon mode functionality? (3.0.22)

Hi,

another newbie with another question with another (doubtless obvious)
answer:  when using "remind -z" no *initial* reminders get issued
(i.e., I had imagined that "remind -z" would function like "remind -f"
but check the input file periodically).  Am I doing something wrong?
On a related note, does "remind -z" take note of INCLUDed files or is
it simply stat()ing the file passed in the command line?
