[Remind-Fans] REM not working

Could someone please let me know what I need to do to get REM to work from
the command line? I can run remind if I type in remind ~/.reminders. I know
I'm missing something simple here but can't figure out what I still need to
do. I can put reminders in using TKRemind or editing the .reminders file.
There must be an easier way to do it and I haven't found the answer in any
of the docs yet.
