[Remind-Fans] A problem under XFCE desktop manager

I use fluxbox, not XFCE, and gxmessages, not xmessage,
but this is what I had to add to my .xinitrc to get
automated pop-up reminders to work: 

remind -z -k'gxmessage -title "reminder" %s &'
~/.reminders &
