What version of Remind are you using?  I get this output:

$ remind ./remtest 
Reminders for Saturday, 12th November, 2011 (today):

testing testing today
sh: gxmessage: command not found

(I don't have gxmessage installed, obviously.)

My output is with Remind 3.01.10.
