 From the Debian/Ubuntu command prompt:

$ remind .reminders 05 Jan 2012 .reminder

[Output]

Reminders for Thursday, 5th January, 2012:

Birthday F...


That command gives reminders for Jan 5th, 2012. It will work for any date.
