[Remind-Fans] why are reminders not editable anymore

I thought the trick was to restore the older rem file from the backup.
However, no reminder in the old file was modifiable any longer. But
this is quite annoying, a backup should be able to restore the old
situation. What exactly is the origin of this behaviour of
remind/tkremind and why was this done?
