[RP-PPPoE] rp-pppoe, 2.6 vs. 3.x with respect to bridging, non-bridging

I am having an issue:

I run pppoe-server as:

pppoe-server -k -F -I eth2 -L 172.27.36.1 172.27.36.2

On a 2.6.x this seems to work fine, and my client can talk to the eth2
of the server just fine.

However, on a 3.x kernel, I end up getting an IP address on my client on
the subnet that the incoming interface of my server is set for, it seems
to be bridging. As far as I can tell, the setups are identical. What
should I be looking for? I've spent an hour or two on google and have
found nothing relevant.

thx
