[RP-PPPoE] lowering pppoe cpu usage

Hello,
Is it possible to lower pppoe's cpu usage ?
On an old router that previously did fine, after switching to a pppoe 
ISP the cpu can't cope (well, it'a pentium III 850mhz but still).
Router runs linux centos 6.5 32bit
package version is rp-pppoe-3.10-11.el6.i686
Is there anything that can be done ?
In theory i have 100mbit but because of this cpu bottleneck i can only 
use 60 or so untill /usr/sbin/pppoe 100% fills cpu.
