[RP-PPPoE] Manually setting a PPPoE interface down/up

What should be the expected behavior if I set a PPPoE interface (ppp0)
down with -

  'ip link set ppp0 down'

then

  'ip link set ppp0 up'

I was expecting to see my pppd if-down and if-up scripts be triggered,
but this does not seem to be the case.  However, I do see that ppp0
no longer has an IP address, though the LCP still seems to be working.

Is this a no-no?
