 ... ciao:

i have pppoe running, and more or less, understand what's going on. what i
do not understand, is how does pppoe handle a block of ip addresses.

     currently:
pppoe-status: Link is up and running on interface ppp0
 ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
        inet addr:nn.nn.nn.nn P-t-P:nn.nn.nn.nn Mask:255.255.255.255

when i get a block of static addresses, will there be a 'pppN' for each of
the five usable addresses, or, something like:

 ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
        inet addr:nn.nn.nn.32 P-t-P:nn.nn.nn.nn Mask:255.255.255.248

finally, if this issue, discussed in the documentaion, let me apologize
 for having missed it.

     t.white ...
