[RP-PPPoE] Unexpected connection termination - stray PADT

Hi!

I am debugging a PPPoE problem where my connection drops randomly ever
few hours.

First I posted on the linux-ppp mail list [1] but there they suggested
the problem might be in kernel.
See the linked last message in that thread for the idea.
In short: a PADT from the ISP is received even if the DST MAC addr is
not of my router and then my router echoes the PADT and disconnects

Does this ring a bell?

Until then, I'll continue monitoring the situation and gather more clues.

The setup details:

ONT: Innbox G21 (provided by ISP; a FTTH to ethernet adapter)
router: Netgear WNDR 3700v2 running OpenWRT 19.07.2
kernel: 4.14.171 (probably modified by OpenWRT project)
pppd 2.4.7

Regards,
David
